 How does this movie live up to the conventions?

The movie did live up to all the conventions. Like we see through the movie in takes place in the beach where a lot of people go to play or swim during the summer. But there is a big problem; a shark has been invading the beach and eating many people. Law enforcement officers and sailors get involved to catch the shark before it becomes too late. The sailor is eaten, after a lot of struggle Brody finally blasted the evil shark. We see the shark eating people alive and we see a lot of blood in the beach water. Of course, many people scream when they see the shark. When the shark comes along we always hear that frightening music.

 Movie review

A woman goes swimming late at night. She was found dead due to a shark attack. The mayor of the town doesn’t want to close the beach because he doesn’t want to lose money. A short time later a boy was killed. So they go out to find the shark and found a tiger shark. Brody and Hoper are convinced this is not the shark, so they go after dark and find no human remains in the shark. The sailormen, Martin and Matt go on the boat to kill the shark. A few days later, with a big struggle with the shark, the sailor men died and Martin killed the shark.

 I think this is a really good movie, and it has a good story. Even thought it was done along time ago, the movie is great hit. Except it looks old and the shark was a really bad one, it showed people had made it. Otherwise it was good. All the actors had done a great job and the directing was also really good. If they had made the shark al little more realistic it would’ve been better. I’m happy that they used sharks instead of a murderer. I wasn’t really scared watching the movie; it was funnier because it looked so fake. At some parts of the movie I felt like sleeping because all the scenes was to catch the shark and I knew the shark would be the funniest thing. One of the worst scenes was when all three of them we’re singing in the boat. That part was so long and pointless for the story.   My favorite part would be when the shark exploded at the end. For a movie that was made a long time back, I would consider it a great movie.

 I think this would be a great movie to all, girls and boys. It’s not scary but maybe kids that get scared shouldn’t watch the movie because a lot of scary scenes are involved. Anyone 13 + that’s loves thrillers can’t watch it ! J

Turning Point 1: Johnny Utah goes undercover to infiltrate the surfing community.

 How does this movie live up to the conventions?

The movie did live up to the conventions. All of the mentioned conventions we saw in this movie. Most action movies you will see extreme violence and fighting which will catch and audience’s attention. We also saw many deaths. Like any other action movie we saw Johnny running after the robbers. We saw many shooting scenes between the robbers and the FBI agents. We also saw many stunts and tricks that made the movie more entertaining to watch. In the movie we mainly saw many fighting scenes that took place around the beach and lastly we saw betrayal in this case where the surfers (bank robbers) betray Johnny.

Movie review

The movie starts off with Johny an FBI agent teaming up with Angelo who in going undercover to figure out the robbers known as the “ex-presidents”. Pursuing Angelo’s theory that the criminals are surfers, he goes to the surfing community to investigate the surfing community. He persuades an orphan girl to teach him to surf. Johnny also becomes close to “Bodhi’s gang”. Following a clue gotten by a hair in a robbery, they go to arrest the wrong surfers. One day, while he was watching Bodhi’s group surf he realizes that they can be the ex-presidents because the way one of them moons. Bodhi takes them on a skydiving trip and one of them member’s kidnaps Tyler. One the ground Johny and Tyler reunite. Two years later Johnny finds Boshi in Australia and arrests him, he persuades to let him go so he can kill himself with the ocean wave.

 The movie was overall okay. It wasn’t bad either. The acting was the worst, especially Keanu Reeves. It was all over exaggerated and the dialogue was so cheesy. He was a bad actor he didn’t play his parts right and it seemed all forced and did it because he had to act.  I have to admit that watching the movie, I wasn’t bored because it was entertaining to watch and the acting and dialogue made me laugh. I find Patrick Swaze’s dialogue so cheesy because it was all about being free spirited, living freely and surfing is a whole new world. Also when they were shooting Angelo someone shoots him from the front he gets back up and someone from the back shoots, that a scene we would see in every movie and it’s obvious that would happen.

The directing was good, it was better than the acting. All the conventions were there. They made really good scenes like the lawn mower scene with Johnny face next to it.  I would give the movie 7/10. This movie actually is way better than what we see today because usually there is too much technology involved in the movie. The movie was original and we were able to watch it. The action movies today are always the same.

This movie most girls won’t really like to watch because it’s an action movie with a lot of violence, shooting, fights. I would recommend this movie mostly to boys because they like watching action movies with a lot of fights. Even some girls can’t be interested in watching an action movie. This movie is not a must see movie. The target audience is mainly teenagers and young adults. I would say no young children should see the movie, too much graphic and violent content. This movie is suitable for 14+.

Usually when we watch romantic comedies we want to see conventions. In this movie the conventions are:

1. Boy meet girl ( Ruban and Polly)

2. Boy and girl fall in love.

3.  Boy or girls ex comes back. (Lisa wants Ruban)

4. They have arguments.

5. More problems add up.

6.  They get back together and live happily ever after.

How does this movie live up to the conventions?

The movie did live up to the conventions. Like any other romantic comedy a boy will meet the girl, they will fall in love. Something from the past will haunt them, in this case Lisa. They will have problems adding up in their life. But after something happens they will understand that they will belong together. Romantic comedies are mostly funny because they exaggerate scenes which will make it entertaining.

Movie review

The movie starts off with Ruban and Lisa, the “love of his life” getting married. They both go on a honeymoon and they decide to go scuba diving.  Ruban catches Lisa cheating on him with the scuba diving instructor. He gets very mad and he decides to leave without Lisa. Later on, Ruban goes to a party with Sandy his best friends and he meets Polly from his high school, he decides to ask her out. They end up dating each other but they don’t have the same tastes. Polly likes salsa dancing and eating cultural spicy food while Ruban doesn’t. But they still have a good time together. Through his relationship with Polly along comes Lisa wanting a second chance with him. He doesn’t know which one to choose so he uses his insurance program to calculate which one is better. Polly discovers this and is very upset so she leaves him. After watching a play he realizes Polly is the one for him. He runs in search for Polly, they get back together.

I think this movie was the best; I loved every second of this movie. I enjoyed it because it was a romantic comedy and because Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston were in it. They both acted very well, especially Ben Stiller who was funny thought the whole movie. I liked the way he exaggerates and does facial expressions. The second characters were also good because they acted as well as main ones.  I would give the movie an 8.5/10 because the character acted very well they were all into their characters and the chemistry was there too.

The directing was also good because the movie was short and sweet. It didn’t get too boring to watch like some other movies. I like the way the started the movie with Lisa, Ruban and the scuba diver and the ending where it was with Polly, Ruban, and the scuba diver. It was an unexpected twist.

I would recommend this movie to teenagers but not for young kids. The comedy and some scenes wouldn’t be suitable for kid’s under 13. People who like romantic comedies, Jennifer Aniston and Ben Stiller would love this movie. This movie is suitable for people from 13-60.

We decided that after looking at the release dates of our similar movies, the summer time would be the best time to release our movie. Also, two out the three movies were released in the summer time anyways.

Facts about our movie:

1. Release Date:  August 20th, 2010

2. Target Audience:  Teenage girls. Teenage guys would be less likely to come watch our movie because it deals with romance and drama instead of action and blood/ gore. The things that would appeal to the teenage girls is probably the actor who would be playing Jacob Moore…Chace Crawford. Also, the fact that it is about popularity and trying to fit in, is a reason a teenage girl would want to watch it because they have went through it at one time. Teenage guys would most probably be dragged to watch our movie  by their girlfriends.

3. We chose this date because it’s a week or two  before school usually starts. This would be the best time because most teenagers would want to go out and have fun. It would be their last chance to do something before the summer break ends. When they’d see our movie coming out, they’ll run out to see it!

Stage 1- Lead characters

Turning point 1- Major event

They are all at the mall (while they’re there, they wish for better lives) and  each throw pennies in the fountain all at the same time.

Stage 2- New situation

• Brittany gets a call from her dad telling her to get home (he’s drunk)
• Jacob notices Sydney ( he says hi and they start a conversation).
• Brittany notices Jacob checking out Sydney, and tries to get his attention (she’s jealous)
• Benjamin looks at the way Jacob charms girls and wishes he was more like him

Turning Point 2- Goal

They wake up in switched bodies.

Stage 3- Progress

• Brittany is jealous of Sydney because Jacob notices her more

Turning Point 3-Point of no return

• They find out that they can’t change bodies unless they get along, so they decide to make the best of it and see where it brings them.

Stage 4- Complication & higher stakes

• Sydney (in Brittany’s body) realizes Brittany’s’ parents are not that great because the father and mother are alcoholics and the mother sleeps around; her friends are actually using her for the popularity; they talk behind her back. However, she is a bit jealous that Brittany gets all the guys.
• Benjamin (in Jacob’s body) realizes Jacob’s dad wants him to be a football star but he doesn’t want to.
• Jacob (in Benjamin body) realizes that Benjamin is a nice guy but is being judged for his looks
• In Sydney’s body, Brittany realizes how fun it could be to live a normal life like Sydney; to have normal family dinners, to have the opportunity to actually have a real conversation with parents and the fact that Sydney’s parents actually care about her and don’t drink.  She is a bit jealous of Sydney’s “perfect life”.

Turning Point 4-Major setback

• Sydney goes up to Brittany and just randomly starts commotion by telling her that it’s all her fault they’re stuck in each other’s bodies.

Stage 5-Final Push

• Sydney (who finally decided to help Brittany; in Brittany’s body) decides to help Brittany with her problems at home by telling Brittany’s parents how she feels lonely without their full participation in her life; they give in and they decide to get help by going to rehab; the mother promises not to sleep around anymore.
• Jacob (in Benjamin’s body) decides to help Benjamin out by changing his looks and by showing the bullies that he now has confidence.
• Benjamin (in Jacob’s body) decides to show Jacob’s dad how smart Jacob really is by showing him all his college acceptance letters.
• Brittany (in Sydney’s body) looks through Sydney’s diaries (where Sydney wrote about rough times) and all feelings of hatred and jealousy towards her disappear.

Turning Point 5-Climax

It’s their graduation day; after meeting and talking with each other, their bodies are switched back because they finally learned to get along.

Stage 6-Aftermath

• Jacob and Sydney are dating
• They’re all friends
• Benjamin attracts a whole new herd of girls
• Brittany actually goes to college along with everyone else and dumps her old “friends”

We start our project by coming up with five what if’s , and pick one that we think we could develop into a “movie”

The fourth one –> “What if bodies could be changed?”

Here are a few things that might go on in this movie:

-An average girl (who’s parents work at this random company) wants to desperately switch bodies with a dizzy cheerleader.

-A male geek wants to switch forms with the most famous guy in school, the star quarterback. His parents are scientists.

-The dizzy cheerleaders parents are not all there. Her dad abuses her and her mom is an alcoholic and sleeps around. Her real hair color is brown, not blond like everyone thinks…Oh my, what a catastrophe!

- The star quarterback has the perfect parents,  and well, he’s just plain rich. He acts like the typical jock, he’s a player and goes along with what his friends think are “cool”. His sister is a geek whom he ignores…

-All four of them wake up and realize that it has all been a dream even if it all seemed so realistic to them… They are very happy to find out that it was all just a dream –>

-The average girl realizes that being popular isn’t what it’s all cracked up to be, the male geek would never want to have parents like the star quarterback has, the dizzy cheerleader would never want to have the average girls’ boring life, and finally the star quarterback wouldn’t want parents who are scientists; he would be a freak!

For the new picture, I asked my mom of course to pose like the older one. It was actually really hard to place her perfectly so it would look like the old one, but I finally got this picture. Even thought it didn’t turn out like the old one, I got a similar one. It was also the middle of October so I couldn’t find any flowers at the park so I had to place her in front of a bush!

I took this picture this way because I wanted it to show how it changed through the years. The first picture it supposed to show the first time she came to Montreal and the second picture is supposed to show the changes living a better life in Canada, and of course the appearance!

I asked my friends in my class, to evaluate the picture. I asked “What do you think the picture is about?” The three people I asked where Hanisha, Julia and Maria.

Hanisha: She said this was the first time that she is discovering the botanical garden. She sees my mom as a young girl just getting to know Montreal. She also said it was a good picture, because she is seeing the difference when she came to Canada and then year’s later living in Montreal.

Julia: Julia mentioned that she she’s young lady when she first came to Canada. She also said she liked the picture because she is similarities in the picture. She also mentioned she sees the old photo, when she is discovering Montreal and the new photo when she is living a better life in Montreal

Maria: Maria said she thinks that my mom has an interest for gardening so she went to the botanical garden to look at flowers and took a nice picture. She also liked the picture. She also has changed how my mom has changed from the old photo. Maria also liked the backgrounds of the picture.

 By looking at the old photo and new photo, 2 of them saw the story I was trying to portray. But 1 of them didn’t really see that in my picture. I understand because both pictures had some kind of flora so she would get the impression that my mom likes gardening. I’m really proud that it almost came in success because I wanted to tell a story of mom who came from Sri Lanka and her discovering and starting a better life in Montreal and the new photo is about my mom living a better life in Montreal.

 I’m really proud about my final product of my photos but to improve my photo I could’ve chosen a picture without so many flowers, because people would get a impression that my mom loves flowers and gardening.

 Evaluate your use of the design cycle

The first step of the process was to do the investigation stage. This stage was mediocre because we had to answer many questions. There were 3 parts to write about in the investigation and many questions we had to think a lot about. We had to investigate the problem, relate to area of interaction, evaluate the sites, and solve our problems using appropriate solutions. Another problem I had was to actually find a photo that had deep meaning into it. I had to choose the best picture and the picture I had was the best one I had. All the others were pictures that only looked good but had nothing to say to the audience. I’m really happy I found a picture like this because this is a good story to tell the audience.

The second step was to do the design process this process was also ok. This process had many writing things to do too. The hardest process to do was the pros and cons, because I couldn’t think about anything at the time I was typing. I found all the possible products where a great way of showing our story to an audience. But finally after thinking I got a result. The process I enjoyed in the design specification was looking at many pictures and the stories behind them. It was so interesting to look at the old photos because it was great to look back at my mom’s memories and here the stories.

The third process was to do the plan process. That was quite easy to do. I just had to look at the important dates and when we had to hand in our assignments. The dates were all organized and I followed everything up to date. But the planning process changed because we had to make our new photo by adding old texture to it so it makes it look more antique.

The fourth process was also very easy to do because you only had to keep everything up to date by knowing what you had done in class. I wrote down what I had done in class and just posted it up on my blog. The actual creation was fun because we were at the park, and I like taking pictures. The only problem was I had to take many shots so the new photo would resemble to the old photo. For the Photoshop process it took awhile to do, I’m not very good at editing with technology so it took a lot of time for me to that part of it. But I was very excited because I was getting to learn how to use Photoshop.

The 5^th process was to do the evaluate process, which I was just evaluating what I did through the whole process and project. It was an easy process, because I knew what I had done wrong and what I had to improve for this process.

To improve my performance in this project I wouldn’t change anything because it turned out as I planned. The only thing I would change is maybe use different editing techniques to make the picture look better. Overall I’m satisfied with my work.
